Sometimes

Sometimes, I forget.

I’m not talking about how I sometimes have to change my computer password because, for the life of me, I can’t remember it. Or, how I sometimes forget where “I just placed my eyeglasses” for the umpteenth time.

No. Sometimes, I forget other stuff. And, I must admit, it bothers me.

Sometimes, I forget that God cares about every detail of my life, and not just the big stuff.  Yes, He shows up in emergency rooms, board rooms, and other big spaces and moments in our lives.

I just sometimes forget that He also shows up in the tiniest moments, the little ones that begin to feel like mountains when I’ve given all I have and still feel behind. Sometimes, I forget how powerful He is when life feels larger than my capacity to handle it all. I even sometimes forget how close He is when I’m frustrated, discouraged, or quietly wondering why things feel so hard.

Along the way, I’m starting to understand that sometimes faith doesn’t always look bold or well-put-together. Sometimes it looks like sitting in silence because you don’t even know what to pray. Sometimes it sounds like, “God, I’m beyond tired” or “I don’t even know what to do anymore.”

And honestly, those are the moments when it’s easiest to beat ourselves up. To think we should be better at this by now. That, if our faith were stronger, we wouldn’t feel this way.

But, I’m learning that these sometimes moments aren’t failures at all. They’re just real life, and real human moments. And, that perhaps they’re actually invitations . . . personal invites nudging us to slow down, breathe deeper, and just rest in this simple truth:

Sometimes, being human means we get caught up in all the things and forget Who holds us through it all. But God can handle our sometimes moments, all the time.

He doesn’t wait for us to clean things up before showing up for us. Our doubts don’t shake Him, and our honesty doesn’t offend Him. His love doesn’t fade when our energy does. His grace doesn’t depend on how confident we feel.

When we forget, He doesn’t. When we’re worn down, He’s still steady. In our sometimes moments, He meets us with a constant love that’s patient, faithful, and overflowing with mercy.

So, if today feels like a sometimes kind of day, you’re not alone. You’re not failing. You’re not too much. You’re just human. And you’re still deeply held by The One who never forgets you. 🤎
