Definitely Maybe

While chatting with a friend over tea, I recently referred to life by its well-earned nickname.

Definitely Maybe.

We were comparing notes on how we can count on life being unpredictable. Life can deliver glad surprises one moment, and blindside us with “What, wait?!” moments the next. Simply put, life definitely brings -and springs – maybes with each passing day.

I’ve had my fair share of experiencing Definitely Maybe, and I’m certain more uncertain moments will come on this side of eternity. Moments like …

Planning to have two kids max with my sweet husband … and then receiving the best surprise blessing ever when God gave us our third kiddo deeeep in our 40s.

Expecting to help nurse my sweet mama back to health after a nasty fall … only to lose her unexpectedly after weeks and weeks of care.

Squirming whenever my late dad told wild stories he imagined due to cognitive decline … and feeling deeply grateful he never forgot who I was in the process.

Definitely Maybe usually pushes us out of our comfort zones. It reminds us that life isn’t always black and white; rather, it’s often colorful and keeps us guessing. And, it certainly stretches our ability to live with ambiguity.

While challenging for sure, let’s stay open to life’s predictably unpredictable moments. Definitely Maybe can bring uncomfortable uncertainty and, yes, even tough times. But, can it create adventure, dreams, and beautiful moments, too?

Definitely Maybe.

  1. I love this! It rings so true… learning to ride the waves and be grateful for it all.

    1. Thanks so much, Kim. That last part can often be the tricky part, can’t it? Gratitude while waveriding, or even after the waves have settled, can stretch us big time. Yet, when it all settles down, we can remember that God is always wise and loving. THAT part offers us so much peace. Hugging you, 🤎

Two things come to mind. Another Karin out there? Yes and there you were! And then you made our meeting happen when I think I already knew my family was moving back to Europe – and it was a shucks that we met as we were leaving Charlotte. But I am so glad we connected!

    1. Saaaaaame here! 🩷 I stopped believing in coincidences al ong, long time ago, my friend. I do hope you and your family are well.

Thank you always for reading and for sharing. I’m sure you’ve had a lot of your own Definitely Maybe moments along the way. Our connecting and having the same first name certainly counts as one! 😊 Hugging you from across the miles!
